I got my big speakers wired up, only to find both dome mid-ranges were open circuit. I looked for replacements for these Philips AD0210/SQ8 drivers. There were none to be found, and the asking price on eBay was anywhere from $120/pair all the way up to $300. I had nothing to loose, so I disassembled them to see what was up. As it turned out the voice coil looked intact, but there was discolouration around where the voice coil joined the tinsel wires. With some care and judicious scraping and soldering I resurrected both mids. I’m still not sure what caused the breaks, if it was due to metal fatigue or just some kind of bad acid core solder…
The picture on the right is the final voice coil repair.
